Import contacts with the wizard

Load contacts and companies from a CSV or XLSX file, step by step.

Workspace OwnerAdmin / RevOps Updated May 2026

The Import wizard brings contacts and companies into Nomow from a spreadsheet. It deduplicates as it loads, auto-creates companies, and enriches existing records — so a messy export becomes clean CRM data.

Before you start

  • Supported files: .csv, .xlsx, and .xls, up to 50,000 rows.
  • Make sure your file has an email column — it's how Nomow deduplicates.
  • One row per person. Company details (industry, employees, country) can sit in the same row; Nomow splits them onto the linked company for you.

The five steps

Upload the file

Drag your file onto the drop zone, or browse for it. You can also paste a list of companies or add a single company by hand from the same screen.

Select the sheet

For XLSX files with multiple sheets, pick the one to import. CSV files skip this step.

Map the columns

Match each column in your file to a Nomow field — email, first name, company, title, phone, country, industry, and more. Nomow auto-suggests a mapping from your header names; correct anything it got wrong. See Column mapping for the detail.

Preview

Nomow shows the first 50 rows with a dedup verdict on each — would create, would merge onto an existing contact, or would skip. Pick the tags to attach to every imported contact and their company.

Import

A progress bar tracks batches as the worker processes them. When it finishes you get counts for created, merged, skipped, and errored rows.

How deduplication works

Every row is matched on its canonical email. If that email already exists, the row merges onto the existing contact instead of creating a duplicate. Existing fields are never overwritten — only empty fields get filled in.

The same logic applies to companies: a company is auto-created from the email domain (freemail domains like gmail.com are skipped), and an existing company has only its blank firmographic fields filled in.

After the import

Every import is recorded in the History sub-tab — file name, row counts, status, and a Revert button. Reverting soft-deletes everything that import created, including auto-created companies, while never touching records that pre-dated the job. See Import history & revert.
